A minor incident involving a cyclist causing delays for motorists heading in and out of Newport this morning (Thursday).
The rider has been injured on Fairlee Road at Binfield, close to the entrance for Island Harbour.
Paramedics have been called to the scene but the cyclist is not thought to be seriously injured.
The road remains open but there are delays in the area.
Editor’s footnote: It was initially reported that a van was involved in a collision with the cyclist. It has since been confirmed that the cyclist came off their bike of their own accord. The article has been updated to reflect this new information.

More bad driving on the I o w
Yes from the cyclist
Ban all cyclists!!!
Not surprised considering how fast the cyle along there especially when they use the footpath sorry cycle path past peoples drives.
There is a cycle path provided along that section of the road and I would bet the cyclist was not using it. I get frustrated with cyclists who use the road instead of the cycle path causing unnecessary delays due to their selfish decision not to use the path provided.
Cyclists should be fined for not using the path.
Cycles were well before cars
Irrelevant!!
Cars pay ROAD tax!
Yea and look at the shitty roads …so your not paying enough are you …
