Wight Eagles FC has confirmed the appointment of Dan Verstraeten as manager of the Ladies 1st team, as they enter their 4th season in Division 2 of the Hampshire Women’s League. Ellena Boakes is stepping down as player-manager after a successful 2-year stint, gaining 2 promotions. Ellena has said:
“It’s been such a pleasure to manage the ladies and play alongside them. They have given me everything but I want to concentrate on playing to help the club achieve the best it can”.
Dan steps in after managing the Wight Eagles FC Academy for the past 4 years and will bring his football knowledge to the Senior team. Mike Ross has been appointed as Chairman of the club with years of experience in girls’ football in London with the likes of Fulham and Wimbledon. Dan Verstraeten says:
“It’s a massive honour to manage the ladies, it will give me a massive chance to bring the youth through and up to ladies’ football as I will also keep my role as head of youth. “I’m really excited to coach such a talented group of ladies with the help of Isle of Wight Ladies Manger, Richie Mumford. “We’re going out to build on what Ellena has started and make this club the biggest and best there is”.
Wight Eagles take on Shanklin Ladies in a friendly tonight (Thursday) at Shanklin – – 18:00 kick-off – before their season begins proper on Sunday at Beatrice Avenue.
