Emergency services are responding to a road traffic incident involving a cyclist in Shanklin this evening (Thursday).
The cyclist is thought to have been knocked their bike by a Kia car on High Street, outside Chubby’s takeaway.
Police have closed the road in both directions whilst awaiting the arrival of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
UPDATE – 1 male has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The road has now re-opened.

another one,how many more….island roads to dangerous for cyclists perhaps a ban ??
From the layout of the car/cycle it looked very much as thought he cyclist came straight out of Cross Street, particularly looking from the other side of the incident.
Third such accident of vehicles coming out of Cross street in as many years. Cross Street is horrendous at both ends.
having lived in Shanklin for 24+ years & driven that road many, many times,.. I’ve never really considered it any problem.
as with a lot of things in life, it’s not the roads that are the problem, it’s how you use them
That headline is very judgemental.
“Knocked off” strongly suggests that blame lies with the driver, when it could be that “rode in front of car”.
‘Breaking news’ is far too early for making accusations like that.
