Fire crews from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a small flat fire in Sandown this morning (Sunday).
3 appliances from Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde are on scene at Carter Street, where light smoke can be seen escaping from a block of flats.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building equipped with a hose reel jet.
The occupants of the building have been evacuated.
Island Echo understands the fire has broken out in a kitchen.
The road is currently blocked with a cordon established.
UPDATE @ 12:05 – It has been confirmed that a fire in the kitchen has been contained and extinguished, with fire crews now working to clear smoke from the property.
All persons are accounted for.
