Police have closed the main road through the village of Havenstreet this afternoon (Tuesday) as a result of a road traffic collision.
The 2-vehicle incident has occurred on the Newport side of the railway bridge.
It’s thought emergency services were called to the scene at around 16:00.
No one has been seriously injured in the smash and recovery has already been arranged.
Motorists are being diverted via Firestone Copse and therefore traffic is heavy in the area.
UPDATE @ 17:10 – The road has now fully re-opened in both directions.
Island Roads have cleared debris from the scene on a tight section of carriageway approximately 300m from the steam railway entrance.

Very dangerous road, it’s extremely narrow in places. But lots of drivers go through their like a bat out of hell. I have no idea why??
I avoid it, I feel sorry for the residents of Havenstreet the speed people drive.
No comments blaming the grass verge, the road surface, the gap between the road and the verge.!!!!!!!! Good these incidents on this road are caused by the speeds knobheads drive along it. I am surprised there are not more.
Your quite right, but I would maintain that that gap is especially dangerous on a narrow road
Get island roads to slow the road down with traffic calming.before it’s to late for some one.
I regularly have to pull out of the bridleway/lane on the bend just past the Steam Railway going towards Newport – it can be a dice with death. The signs on the road say SLOW and that’s what they mean.
More bad driving on the I o w
