The recovery of a vehicle following a road traffic collision near the Calbourne Watermill has forced the closure of Middle Road this morning (Wednesday).
The incident occurred on the S bends on the B3401 Newport Road between Calbourne and Chessell on Sunday afternoon.
Now, the vehicle is being recovered.
It had come to rest in a hedge at around 17:30. Police tape was erected to indicate to passing motorists that the Police were aware.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being, diverting locally via Newbridge or Brighstone.

It’s Wednesday it’s taken 3 days and why close the road all day
Hahaha, boy racers think they can handle their souped up go carts.
Back in my day I was cruising along at 55 through Arreton. No one stopped me, no one could catch me.
Diversion through Newbridge? When I came across this morning there was no diversion, just a case of sit and wait, or as most people did, turn round and yes, divert through Newbridge. Would have saved a lot of bother all round if they had just put a diversion in place first.
Who puts the diversion signs up: the local cop shop or Island Roads?
It should have been the police by my reckoning. But if you know different please tell us. As they usually close roads when an accident happens, they close it when they need to do accident investigation work, perhaps a combination of the two??
