Police and ambulance crews are in attendance at a road traffic incident at Vittlefields Cross this afternoon (Sunday).
The incident occurred at around 12:45 at the cross roads with Forest Road, Whitehouse Rod and Betty Haunt Lane.
At least 2 vehicles – a blue Skoda and a silver Toyota – are involved. Both vehicles have sustained significant damage.
Island Echo understands that no major injuries have been sustained – despite the presence of the Enhanced Care Paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Police have closed the road at the junction with Gunville Road to stop traffic backing up.
Southern Vectis buses are currently diverting, with 1 bus currently at the front of the queue having been blocked from passing the crash.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – The road has now reopened.

When will the Council do something about that junction? Does someone else need to die before they make safety improvements there?
There is no doubt that this is a horrible junction, visibility is limited and something positive needs to be done. Suggest the driver(s) involved engage one of these claims solicitors to sue the council for neglet of road safety matters.
Much as I hate the ‘urbanisation’ of the Island I do agree. That junction needs traffic lights. After all the talk, following the last fatality there, absolutely nothing has been done. There are other solutions but lights could be the quickest. (They are erected quick enough for roadworks)
It’s just poor driving on the island nothing to do with the council
If the drivers looked at the signs and took there time at the junction the accidents wouldn’t happen
The drivers have the accidents not the council
The driving on this island is totally appalling the amount of near misses due to careless driving, speeding not watching the road etc
When there are speed cameras around people flashing other drivers to warn them the police are around
Do you not realize the police are there for a sensible reason .
Honestly those drivers should have an eyesight check and also have to have a retest.. LEARN to drive… everyone is in too much of a hurry…to get where??
Sadly, no eyesight test will stop stupidity, drink and drug driving and just good old fashioned arrogance. Agree that many are in too much of a hurry and don’t drive defensively.
When will they put traffic lights at this junction. At least no one died on this occasion but luck will run out again its only a matter of time
Just how many accidents do there have to be at that junction before the council do something about it.
Trouble is, they’ll have to admit they’ve been wrong every time they’ve said it doesn’t need anything….
£500 says it’s vaccine related not that the media would ever admit…
Seek help!
They crashed because they had the vaccine ???
prove to me they didn’t
Why do I need to prove to you they didn’t ??? . You’ve made a ridiculous comment which Is just typical conspiracy theory nonsense.
£5,000 says it’s not.
Total pillock, bog off .
If you can’t comment seriously sod off !!!!
Vaxrage.. ooohhh
Reg, i think this was one of your wrinklie peers that was responsible here bringing this island’s road to a grinding halt.
Snap sod off if you can’t be serious !!!!!
That was my mum involved in the crash please be mindful of your tone non of you were there so please stop your mindless storytelling of how she needs to learn to drive. A loved one a mother and a friends could of lost her life please I implore you to find something better to do than spread your insufferable ideas
Yet again such hate, please listen to what Eva has asked a d if you can not say something in kindness go away its called trolling. I find ot incredulous such spiteful immature dyitritre. I’m sorry Eva you have to read such nasty ignorant rubbish . Praise God no one died. Well done to all services.
There’s this thing called freedom of speech, ever heard of it, nazi?
If her driving is as bad as your English we’re all doomed…
What a wonderful person you are thank you for your very kind words. Hope that helps you sleep at night
Really omg it is getting so out of hand now
Reading some of these comments I worry for the world that you people walk amongst us.
There is nothing wrong with this junction I’ve pulled out of it thousands of times never been an issue just watch what you are doing. If you have a problem with it maybe it’s your driving
Agree 100% Wayne, if bad drivers don’t pull out onto a main road in front of moving traffic there would be zero accidents there.
Bob a job Bob has received enough reminders about this issue. Will he please ensure that something gets done urgently
I’ve had a chat with Donna and the road safety unit are going to speak to all of the island drivers and ask them to slow down a bit. That’ll sort things out.
