Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will be attending the Solent Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Cowes today (Saturday).
The Solent Platinum Jubilee event will be a showcase of more than 400 boats, bringing the Solent’s sailing and yachting community together to celebrate the Queen’s reign and in recognition of the support the Royal Family has given to so many water-based events over the last 70 years.
A committee of sailing organisations, class associations and clubs from across the Solent region is organising the event, which will follow this year’s Cowes Week.
Chair of the organising committee, Jonathan Nainby-Luxmoore said:
“We will be delighted to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to the Solent Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Saturday 6th August.
“The Royal Family continues to give wonderful support to the sailing community and charities in the Solent and her presence will make this special celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee even more memorable.”
In addition to the Solent racing programme, the skies will host a ‘City of Exeter’ Spitfire air display performed courtesy of the Spitfire Academy at Goodwood. There will be music and entertainment at a free concert at Cowes Yacht Haven later in the day.
Local yacht and sailing clubs are still welcome to join by emailing [email protected]. All boats, from RIBs to sailing and motor vessels, can register with their own yacht club to be part of the official programme.

A costly home for all has to be ‘found’ and then the rent subsidised as is council tax, all add to the burden on the NHS and education costs for those who speak little English is huge.
Whilst one may work, that never covers the cost of the dependants nor the house nor the council tax nor the free prescriptions and dental care

whilst you are correct about the spongers arriving in the country- the royals do not “earn” anything for this country. They simply trot around at your expense, on private jets, polluting the atmosphere, whilst preaching climate change, quafffng fine food that you paid for, through your taxes, leaving you less money to buy your own food and they have you arrested if you challenge this.

This country claims to be inclusive, yet allows one family the right to unfettered privilege, which they did not earn and no one can compete with them, as they don’t allow it. Their jobs/incomes are protected, whereas yours is not – hardly inclusive is it.
Surely though, the Royal families ancestors once owned the whole of the UK through gaining such in battles and invasions.
Thus they are the rightful owners of all land here, and those that helped them achieve victory like the Oglanders etc, were awarded lands of their own.
So, due to Charles the !st over stepping the his powers we had a civil war, and the Royals were allowed to remain but lost most of their land, but in return it was agreed they would be paid from the civil list to remain living a high standard of lifestyle forever.
So, I can’t see an issue with that.
I am sure if they all lived in a council flat the country and you and I would gain nothing but the UK would be a far far worse off place in world status.

geologically the planet will have a lifespan of billions of years if not more – a human is lucky to reach one hundred. Humans do not actually own anything – you merely borrow the ground you stand on, the house you live in and the job you have, from future generations, as did those of the past.
Countries only exist, because humans decided to draw lines on a map and name the areas – nature, birds and all other creatures do not see boundries, countries or restrictions – they go where they want to, only restricted by their own abilities. Who is truly free, nature or us.

Look at The Sun/mirror if want to see British benefit scroungers taking holidays abroad and then claiming can’t feed their kids while they have nails done,latest mobile and Nike trainers etc and those with ten kids by 11 fathers ? (You do the maths).

Oh dear Fred – I am one of those evil space-wasters. My generation rebuilt the country after ww2 – we set up health and welfare services to ensure good health and security for all. Imagine if you can, if living on mainland, you book a holiday, say £399.99 excellent, drive to airport and away you go.. BUT Living on this Island, one also needs to book and PAY for a ferry, adding a lot more to the cost !! Could be another £200.00plus just for the ferry.. Complete RIP OFF and you can only travel when it suits the ferry company..
BUILD A TUNNEL just imagine if there is a tunnel, one could pop over to mainland on Christmas Day to visit friends and relatives, and come back after 20:30 in evening… !!

Imagine IF you can just what the costly tunnel will bring:
Firstly it will be almost as expensive as the Ferries as once it has killed off the small but competitivity between Wightlink and Red Funnel, then WHOEVER funded the tunnel will want massive returns, be it a private company or shareholders of such.
Despite that fact, imagine if YOU can that the tunnel is cheap, then don’t YOU see why the mainland is built up so much compared with here?
Do you think the Island would not in a very short few years resemble the mainland?
The soil isn’t different here, it is the fact that it IS costly and fuss to come and go which has MADE THE Island different and desirable place to live.
IF YOU don’t see that then WHY are YOU here, not there?
Masses more would move here before it was ruined, but each one of the masses would be destroying just that little bit more until it was as hideous as the mainland.

Ask the Government to build a TUNNEL , PLEASE ! People here are trapped, we do not have choice of freedom to travel to mainland when WE want…
Tunnel – hah! No thanks. As an indigenous IOWighter, I don’t feel in any way trapped. Having moved to the Mainland to work, I never felt trapped – met loads of lovely people – came back for a holiday or 6 when I wished. And eventually returned, owing to a bereavement. If those who move here don’t feel comfortable, move back to all those Motorways and Airports. No need at all to feel trapped.
You think there won’t be a toll to pay to go through a tunnel? Or delays caused by road accidents or roadworks? A massive price to pay for very little gain. Not only in the price of building it but in the infrastructure

Clearly only sees the perceived gain of perhaps less cost and less time taken to cross.
YET can’t see that likely the cost will skyrocket to pay back shareholders once, as already stated on here, the competition is gone for good.
Also the delays ONCE here, due to our small roads and infrastructure will be EVERY day, so, the few who may save half an hour fuss, will loose that and so will we ALL every day, queueing and waiting at junctions and lights and trying to find parking will be impossible.
The Island will be built to oblivion as people flock here until it is as ugly as the other side, but then too late.
Selfish jerks like that only see one issue, then too late if such idiots have their way once it is ruined it will be so forever.
It ought to pack up and go to the other side of the Solent. more houses their than here..
