A training exercise turned into a real shout for Cowes RNLI when they were tasked to Totland Bay earlier this evening (Tuesday).
Around an hour into a training session for prospective helms, Solent Coastguard hailed Cowes Lifeboat with an immediate tasking.
Details had been received through a 999 call that a boat was in difficulties in Totland Bay. As the ‘Sheena Louise’ Atlantic 85 lifeboat was already on the water and deemed to be the nearest asset, the volunteer crew members were asked to investigate.
Cowes Lifeboat proceeded at best speed to the area and conducted a search of the bay, but after a thorough search nothing was found.
The search was stood down and the lifeboat returned to Cowes at 20:55.
