A search has been launched by Police as concerns grow for missing 56-year-old Andrew Chisholm from Cowes.
Andrew hasn’t been seen since late yesterday afternoon when he was spotted driving away from a lay-by at Lower Watchingwell on Yarmouth Road, Shalfleet at around 17:30.
He was in a white Peugeot 206 which had a ladder sticking out of one of the windows.
Police say they believe Andrew is in a vulnerable state and are asking anyone who knows where he is, or thinks they have seen him, to call 999 as soon as possible.
Andrew is described as White, 6ft 5inches tall and of medium build. He has dark grey hair and was wearing a black Puffa style jacket and dark jogging bottoms.
The National Police Air Service helicopter has been drafted in to assist in the search for Andrew, with a sweep of the western half of the Island now complete.
WightSAR – the Isle of Wight’s volunteer search and rescue team – have been deployed to assist Hampshire Constabulary. They were put on standby at 10:01 and mobilised an hour later at 11:05 this morning.
UPDATE @ 17:10 – The search has been given fresh hope as a result of a member of the public locating Andrew’s vehicle in Binstead after seeing a photo on Facebook.
The Peugeot has been found in Church Road, near the bridleway to Quarr Abbey.
Police and WightSAR have now relocated to Binstead in the hope of finding Andrew, however. the NPAS helicopter has returned to Bournemouth due to low fuel levels.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that Andrew has been found by WightSAR in the Binstead area. It’s understood he has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
The search has now been stood down and Police have thanked the public for their assistance.
The power of social media and the actions of one individual sighting the vehicle – some distance from its last known location – directly led to Andrew being found.
