A new seafront cafe will be built in Bembridge after receiving 91 letters of support.
County Hall granted SE-View permission to build a cafe at Kingsmere on Lane End Road, with approved plans also including parking spaces, a garden, bike storage and a pedestrian walkway.
The decision is in the face of 11 objections including opposition from Bembridge Parish Council (BPC).
BPC cited ‘insufficient parking provision’ and an ‘adverse impact’ on the area’s character, appearance and neighbouring properties.
Explaining the approval, planners wrote:
“The proposed development would be a high-quality modern design and would represent an investment into the local and wider tourism offer in Bembridge.
“It is considered that any harm caused by this proposal would be minimal and would not outweigh the overall benefits, in terms of the economic and social benefits and bringing back into use previously developed land, removing the existing unused and unattractive structure in place.
“The use proposed is considered appropriate for this seafront location, with a historic cafe use on site, and highways and ecological matters can be dealt with via condition.”
Should have kept the old one, what a waste
of time and money.
Hehehe….people power over traditional nimbys
I wish they had kept the old one, bet the new
one will charge ridiculous prices.
It will be for overnors only, locals won’t want to
pay the extortionate prices.
Bembridge or NOT!
30+ years ago I discovered cheesy chips in the old cafe there. We regularly ate there and took the kids to the little bit of sand for beach fun.
The old cafe was great, the cafe I miss most is the
Old Toll Gate cafe along Embankment Road
It is now a tarty farty Fish cafe.
Thank you for that
Isn’t bembridge parish council the one which cannot hold a meeting without infighting, surprised they have time to protest whilst so busy backstabbing each other.
Most parish councils are run by children
Bering born and bred in Bembridge, in my opinion a good, friendly café is just what it needs. also to get the surrounding areas a bit of a tidy up would not go amiss.
Previous wording should have read, Being born.
