A road traffic collision between a car and a van has closed a main road between Newport and Wootton this afternoon (Thursday).
Multiple police units are responding to Staplers Road, near to the junction with Blacklands Lane and the former Isle of Wight Lavender Farm.
It’s not currently known how many vehicles have been involved in the incident but motorists using Whiterails Road and Staplers Road are being told to turn around.
Southern Vectis have announced that Route 9 via Wootton will divert via Fairlee. Additional delays for motorists are being caused by a broken down lorry on Long Lane.
UPDATE @ 16:34 – It’s understood that the police have now closed Staplers Road at its junction with Landscape Lane with traffic now unable to proceed to Whiterails Road. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area as crews work at the scene.
UPDATE @ 17:21 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 4.12pm to Staplers Road following reports of a collision involving a car and a van, at the junction with Blacklands Lane.
“No injuries have been reported to us and we remain at the scene.”
