Coastguard teams from The Needles and Ventnor have been mobilised to Compton this evening (Sunday).
Officers have arrived at the popular tourist spot off Military Road over fears for the welfare of an individual.
The alarm was raised sometime before 17:00.
Investigations are underway.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that fears were raised for not 1 but 2 individuals, who were reported to be stuck in the mud on cliffs at Compton.
HM Coastguard were swiftly stood down after it was discovered that the elderely couple had managed to free themselves.
Needles CRT carried out welfare checks but Ventnor CRT were stood down prior to arrival on scene.
