UPDATED: COASTGUARD TEAMS ASSIST POLICE WITH INCIDENT AT TENNYSON DOWN


Coastguard Rescue Teams from The Needles and Ventnor assisted Police with an incident at Tennyson Down near Freshwater late last night (Tuesday). 

The 2 teams were tasked to assist Hampshire Constabulary at a point 400m west of Watcombe Bay at 21:37. It was just before 21:30 that multiple Police units were seen to be rushing out to the West Wight.

Coastguard officers extracted a casualty and carried them to an awaiting ambulance located on the main road. It is unclear what injuries they sustained.

Freshwater Independent Lifeboat was also tasked to the incident. The volunteer crew were placed on standby for an immediate launch. They were stood down at just gone 22:30.

Hampshire Constabulary have been approached for a statement.

UPDATE @ 09:14 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that the force were called just after 21:00 to report of a concern for the welfare of a woman at Freshwater Bay.

Officers attended the scene and a woman was brought to safety.
