2 Coastguard Rescue Teams, 2 lifeboats and Police are currently involved in an ongoing incident at Culver Down, where concerns have been raised for the welfare of an individual.
HM Coastguard is working alongside Hampshire Constabulary, with Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams on scene at the East wight beauty spot with local Police.
Officers have taken up position in several car parks on Culver Down, as well as Yaverland Car Park. Access to Culver Down has been closed.
Meanwhile, on the water, Bembridge RNLI lifeboat has launched both its D-class inshore lifeboat and the Tamar-class All Weather Lifeboat – with volunteer crew members currently holding off the base of the cliffs.
The incident began at around 15:30 and remains ongoing at this time.
It’s the 3rd time in 2 days that emergency services have been called to Culver, with both previous incidents relating to a woman in distress.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent is now in attendance, holding off to the east of Sandown Bay.
UPDATE @ 17:46 – A woman, accompanied by a supportive friend, has now returned to the safety of the car park, bringing the incident to a close.
Emergency services are now standing down with both lifeboats and the Coastguard helicopter already back on station.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Sounds like another time waster…drain on society..
How can you be so condensing to make such a nasty comment as that. I hope that you are never in such an anguished state that Death is the only way out. You comment does NOT Mach your name ‘’ Temperance’’.
If the person died of actual Death (capital D) then it would be sad, and Temperance’s comments in poor taste. However, it seems this stunt has been pulled a few times and nobody died. Meanwhile, resources which could save lives in accidents and unwelcome tragedies elsewhere, are being frittered away on some troubled soul going for a walk…
think she needed help and now she’s got some, maybe you might need some one day
Love the quiet and be your own soul
Weedkiller will do it, but no, they have to have a great swan song…!
Does seem alot of resources for someone who may/may not want to take their own life ,when other people are unable to get life saving support when really needed ?.
Hope the lady is OK, But two lifeboats, two rescue teams, a helicopter !!!!!
Was both previous instances related to one particular woman and also was this incident related to the same woman? If the answer is yes then medical services should be more robust to stop this happening.
If it is the same woman then for gods sake section her and give her treatment otherwise we will waste sooo much resources dealing with an aftermath rather than dealing with the cause.
I think this person needs lobe and support. Not people judging her
If someone is that desperate don’t judge them.
It could be your loved one
Tina will YOU take out a loan to fund the emergency services and to sort out this poor souls problems?
Thought not but happy to have us all fund it when many of us are pushed to the edge ourselves now financially.
Think
Well it can happen to anyone even you and we all pay for it and I’m fine to help that is what there there for
If you ever need the help of an emergency service, I’m assuming you’ll be paying for it in full, just so your not being a hypocrite as well as an idiot.
Love and support sorry
Had to wait 2hrs for an ambulance the other day for a elderly neighbour that had fallen and split her head open..2hrs!! blood everywhere but thats ok as they’re really good being all touchy feely there there up culver and clapping for themselves, worlds gone mad…hope shes ok but this overcare of the vunerable is getting obsessive..
There are so many contradictions in your post i don’t know where to start….
You have changed your tune from one year ago ?
Sorry to hear about your elderly neighbour, but was it life threatening ?
Worlds gone mad ?
Hope she is ok but this overcare of the elderly is getting obsessive……
(free speech IE ?).
what was different a year ago slomo?
Only 2hrs, my parent fell last week, lay on floor several hours before aware, control said ambulance would be 4/5hrs don’t move them. 7hrs ambulance arrived, hospital struggling finding staff on ward, all at breaking point and people not getting medical help.
Such a sad story. If it is the same individual, she needs professional help, not a supportive friend. Whatever happened to the institutions for these people. Oh wait……
How can you be hard, with a name like ‘Terry’ ?
Every Terry i have ever known used to wet the bed.
People who are truly mentally down don’t generally say they are mentally down.
It can be because they are in denial.
It can be because they just want to mask their feelings.
It can be because they don’t want some cunt on the Internet to say “Just harden the fuck up”.
Just saying.
Create space in your mind for empathy and the hatred in your eyes will soften
Elderly lady in St. Lawrence had to wait more than ten hours for an ambulance, just a couple of months ago. Yes, folks, it was a life threatening condition. Thankfully the ninety-seven year old (who has paid into the system more than most) lived, and continues to pay her taxes so that special people who are finding life a bit tough have all the highly expensive attention they require. Sounds a bit harsh, but the loony bins served a purpose. If my kids had to wait for emergency services that long because someone fancies doing a French Lieutenant’s Woman on precarious cliffs then I could probably put her on to a chap in Pompey to do the job.
Well it’s a shame people have to go to these lengths like walking up Culver,to get the mental health they need.just goes to show that we need more mental health workers here.think of the savings it would save on emergency services.?Because this happens all the time.
