The coastal path between Shanklin and Ventnor in the area of Bonchurch has been closed by the Isle of Wight Council following weeks of torrential rain. Access to an area known as ‘The Landslip’ at Bonchurch has now been restricted. Coastal Path V66 has been shut off between Bonchurch and Luccombe which includes closures at the junctions of V66 and Bonchurch Shute, V65b and V67, V65C and Leeson Road, plus V65a and V65. Devil’s Chimney – footpath V65C – remains closed due to ‘significant movement’ of the concrete steps, as well as 2 landslides. The famous steps were closed off back in June and are expected to remain closed for some time to come. The local authority says that it will be reviewing the affected areas to assess the length of closures. It apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Another area of beauty to be removed from the already diminished ‘things to do and see’ on the Island for tourists.
Sooner waste our Council tax on ‘ring fenced’ spongers, the care in the community, criminals, and the contents of the daily flotilla’s womb content needing to be fostered out at great expense to us all.
These beautiful areas should be a priority to be made fit for both locals and tourists to enjoy as they have since tourism first found the Island.
Disgusting that the most worthless in society are now the most ‘pampered’.
It’s called bonchurch landslip for a reason. Not much any body can do against large scale rotational landslip.
Lucky the Victorians etc never took on your view.
Sure it is a landslip area, but with modern equipment new earth / rocks movement would not be the hard labour of people and horses it once was.
As more and more homes are built here, IF the council are profiting on one home, then the more built should increase revenue, but this council, some through central Gov dictate I agree, waste more and more on wasters in society, who only ever take, allowing them a life as good as most working people, and so there is no money for upkeep of attractions such as this. Also the fact that the idle, or odd, live so well on benefits, causes bitter resentment from those having to go to work full time in disgusting weather conditions.
Yes there is, do the necessary drainage work.
Wow plastic tape. It would take some effort to get past a few strands of plastic tape. Or a quick snip with some scissors. The Landslip is not for those with mobility issues and anyone walking that way knows to take care. This stupid nanny council. All they ever do is close things off over slight issues and then forget about it. Nothing gets repaired for years on end.
As usual, the council not attending to drainage.
