A man who was seen turning around in a road before clipping cones and road signs was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time, a court has heard.
Kristian Dixon, 49, of Monkton Street in Ryde, pleaded guilty to drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that Police saw a car turn around at the one-way junction at the bottom of George Street on the Esplanade. Dixon did this as the road was temporarily closed.
During the completion of the manoeuvre, Dixon was seen by officers clipping cones and the signage in the road – something he disputed in court.
When asked by officers if he had used any cannabis, Dixon replied saying ‘yes, this morning’.
A roadside drugs wipe was conducted which returned a positive reading for cannabis. At Newport Police Station a blood test was taken which later returned a reading of 5.2ug/l – the legal limit is 2.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that his client had worked as a delivery driver at the time and that when he noticed the Police car he focused on that vehicle, which is why he knocked the cones over. Mr Vincent said that Dixon was disabled due to a car accident over 20 years ago. It was argued that Dixon’s act of turning around was more civilised than the Police claimed.
Dixon has been made subject to an interim driving ban as the case has been adjourned for a Newton Hearing to take place on 27th April prior to sentencing.

We should send these boy racers back to Rwanda!
Is that where they came from then? I hadn’t realised East Africa was such a hotbed of crappy cars.
In his defence, his solicitor said he was concentrating on the police rather than his own driving/turning. Oh well that’s ok then, let’s just forget that he was doped up to the eyeballs and in charge of a vehicle!
“doped up to the eyeballs” bahahahaha
