Children and young people with disabilities and/or additional needs and their families are invited to a fun and information day which is being held at Medina Leisure Centre playing fields, with a celebrity singer also giving a performance.
The Isle of Wight Council’s short breaks team is hosting the annual event, which features a range of activities and entertainment. It takes place on Friday 25th July between 10:00 and 16:00 on the main playing field at Medina.
Activities on offer include a bouncy castle, circus skills, arts and crafts, dancing and a number of fun games. Music on the day will be provided by Jamie Johnson, who recently reached the final of BBC’s The Voice and was on Kylie Minogue’s team.
Other entertainment include well known Isle of Wight magician David Randini, Wight Falconry and Ryde Extreme.
Refreshments will be available including the opportunity to purchase hot or cold foods.
As well as the entertainment on offer, there is also a chance to find out more about upcoming changes to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) arrangements. These are being introduced by the government from 1 September 2014, as part of the Children and Families Act 2014, and seek to join up specialist support across education, health and care from birth to age 25.
There will also be the opportunity to meet local short breaks providers and find out more about many of the activities they provide.
There’s no need to book to take part in the day, just simply turn up and join in the fun.
Summer short breaks activities and facilities are available to book now. For information and how to book, visit www.iwight.com/shortbreaks.
