An elderly casualty is currently lying on the pavement in Lake awaiting medical assistance after an incident that occurred some hours ago earlier today (Saturday).
The incident occurred at around 11:00 at the junction of Lake Hill, Sandown Road and Newport Road.
The casualty – believed to be an elderly female – has been at the scene by the side of the road for a considerable amount of time – with paramedics yet to arrive.
In efforts to comfort the casualty, numerous members of the public have gathered around her including members of HM Coastguard and emergency first responders.
Island Echo understands that Police are at the scene.
UPDATE @ 14:50 – The casualty has been treated at the scene by paramedics and has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
4 hours for an ambulance to get there best health service in the world ay hmm me thinks not not by a long shot the most useless health service in the world hmm yeah that’s more accurate not the fault of ambulance or medical staff more the fault of NHS being run by pen pushers with not enough medical knowledge to apply a band aid that demand more pay than doctors who save lives I think that’s a dynamic that needs to change personally it’s a health service not a business after all.

I went past at gone 12 o’clock as finished work and saw the lady on the floor…didn’t see any police…we are a small island …not good…Good job there kind people around …as lived here since the 80s and to be honest the island is not nice anymore….

Absolutely disgusting that she was left so long. I really hope this lady is ok.
Because they are not equipped to do so. As distressing as it sounds, given the mild weather she was probably safer being left where she was until an ambulance could arrive.
It is disgusting that she had to wait so long, but it is not the fault of the NHS. It is all down to 13 years of mismanagement by our self serving Government. Remember this when you get a chance to vote.
What makes you think that Labour would be any different.

As ever more impoverished fill our land, taking money, homes, hospital bed, filling maternity wards, rape crisis centres, and prisons, then it is of no surprise that the country ends up like the third world lands that these beings create, WHEREVER they choose to settle, anywhere on the globe.
Even if they settled en-masse in Mayfair, it would STILL be a hot bed of crime, overcrowding, poverty and misery for all.
SEE the problem in the UK and everywhere else they ruin.

Do you honestly this he is concerned about what happens on the Island? He is only after another stint as our local MP as no matter what the issue he is a Party Line follower not what is best for the public. I just hope someone good jumps up to fight for us before General Election.
So why can’t the firefighters turn up and give a hand. They turn up in mobs when not needed. Not saying it’s their problem but this was a old person who needed help.
They turn up when requested to. They were not requested to in this case.
It is not their decision to attend or not.
Agreed, it does take someone to contact them, as there were so many around the poor lady bet they all thought someone else had phoned for an Ambulance when in effect no one had until later on.
They are not trained paramedics! Unlike on The States to move the lady with paramedic care would or could do more harm than good!.
Our fire service should back up the ambulance, just like America does.. 9/10 times they’ll call the fire department for someone injured, leaves the ambulance free for others then that are more serious.. hope the lady make a full recovery

She was. Lying down actually on the hard, cold pavement. Though many kind people had stopped and covered her with coats and blankets and cushioned her head.
The NHS is vital, we all agree,

Let’s not blame the staff that are doing their best,

And, possibly, killed her or made her condition worse.
You cannot move an elderly patient, she might have dislocated or broken her hip, leg, knee or dislocated a shoulder………or even worse. I do understand your concern but you just don’t move casualties, you could end up doing more harm than good.
You know 90% of Island Echo’s reportage is from people turning up at accidents, gloating AND taking photos AND sending them into IE for publication, right?

Sometimes it’s not good to move someone because of possible spine damage!!

if it was 4 hours thats discusting although some one i know had to wait nearly 50 mins luckily it was’nt raining or would of been soaked and very cold..should not be like this on the island.

If you didn’t bother to vote, or you voted conservative last election you personally contributed to this poor lady’s plight. I’ve sat with a pensioner languishing on the floor of their home for 12 hours because the ambulance service had no spare crews to attend. They died a few weeks afterwards. Isn’t it shocking that in our so called developed country, normal people can’t rely on an ambulance crew to give them the attention they need? If you are a pensioner, you’ve already paid untold hundreds of thousand of pounds in taxes, but the money taken by the conservative government is mismanaged and funnelled upwards to the already rich. Vote for them, or don’t bother voting at your peril next election.

If you ever find yourself in St Mary’s A&E take a look around you. Unless you are there at 2AM on a Sunday morning, 90% of the patients you see there will be elderly.
The NHS is failing because it is underfunded and because it has not kept up with the UK’s and, particularly, the IW’s ballooning elderly population.
Nothing to to with young people (whose numbers on the Island are falling) or immigrants (of whom we have very few here (well, except at the hospital where 1/5th of the staff are foreign born)).
It’s nothing to do with that!
