Emergency services are rushing to a road traffic collision outside the Hare and Hounds public house at Downend near Arreton this afternoon (Wednesday).
Police, fire and ambulance crews are responding to the scene where a Ford Mondeo has ploughed through a garden wall at the junction of Downend Road and The Downs Road.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have mobilised several resources to the scene of the collision as it is believed the occupants are still within the vehicle.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has dispatched paramedics to the incident and Police officers are also present. They were alerted at around 13:00.
Traffic is building with motorists being advised to avoid the area for the foreseeable.
UPDATE @ 13:30 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has said they’ve mobilised crews from Ryde and Shanklin. 2 people are trapped within the vehicle and firefighters are now working to extricate them.
The Downs Road has been closed in an east-bound direction but all other roads remain open.
UPDATE @ 13:47 – Southern Vectis have said their buses are now on diversion as a result of the closure with Route 8 & Downs Breezer buses affected.
Route 8 buses are unable to serve from Pan to Arreton Manor. The Downs Breezer is unable to serve from Briddlesford to Arreton Manor.
UPDATE @ 13:57 – All roads have now been reopened to traffic and buses have resumed their normal line of route.
The occupants of the vehicle have been assisted by firefighters to the awaiting ambulance.
2 external walls have been damaged but the pub remains open as normal.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 12:57 this afternoon (Wednesday 14 July) to a report that a silver Ford Mondeo had collided with a wall near the Hare and Hounds Pub.
“There were two occupants in the vehicle, a man and a woman – neither have reported any injuries at this time.”
