A car on its roof is causing significant delays for those travelling on the main road between Ryde and Brading this afternoon (Tuesday). A single fire appliance from Ryde is on scene on the A3055 Beaper Shute, alongside resources from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. The incident has involved a single vehicle – a VW Golf – and has seen the German motor come to rest on its roof between the hedge and the edge of the road. A single occupant – a female driver – has managed to self extricate from the vehicle and is now in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. The service has mobilised several resources including 2 ambulances, a doctor and an Operational Commander, but no serious injuries are thought to have been sustained.
The road is currently closed by Police in both directions between Harding Shute and Tesco Roundabout. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being. UPDATE – The road has now reopened in both directions.

What is going on here? Drive this road most days at a ton twenty no problems. You less experienced drivers female drivers and old drivers need to slow down before we see a car on its roof here. Oh wait a minute…….. Beep Beep see u laterz.
You absolute total Pratt.
Aren’t you funny!, (at least you think you are).
So, you’re neither cool, clever or funny. That doesn’t leave much, does it?
Don’t know why islandecho let such idiots like you comment!
I agree totally Sid.
It’s the older generation they should have just stayed indoor
Complete R sole.
I’m so glad you told us it is a German motor. Thank you.
Vorsprung Durch Techniq
How? I can only assume doing eye liner instead of turning the steering wheel.
Probably texting
More braindead idiots will be along very soon…..
should have the license plate 370H55V
(look it up if you don’t know)
No gross Americanisms, please. This is the Isle of Wight!
Why two ambulances for a single person?
The more the merrier I guess
Hope the police have her details as I own the property she has landed in and will be requiring the damage repaired as livestock in there
Are you for real?? It’s just happened and you need to write that here?? A##hole
Are claiming for a blade of grass that’s been crushed or is this just claim culture you muppet
Shut the whole of beaper at rush hour…. Absolute nightmare. Don’t know HOW she managed that. The roads (and drivers) on the Island seem to get worse by the day!
She didn’t shut it the car wasn’t even blocking the road it’s all the emergency vehicles that blocked the road
They are not the brightest sparks in the shed.
And send the traffic….where?
A female! Must have been on her phone then! Imma waitin for the hatin!
What a absolute sick another bit of fine driving
Here we go again!
No doubt more to come.
Wow! For such a small island, RTAs are off the scale.
There is no law and order on Island roads, also
safety is rubbish.
Permanent speed camera along this dangerous road is much needed.
You need to check accident stats…because you’re wrong you muppet
Will we ever know how this happened?
Was the Numpty on her phone or was she applying make up at the time
or speeding.
Maybe plod will check the motorists phone to see if they had been using
their phone, if so ban them and make them pay for the damage caused.
Closing the road made hundreds of motorists having to travel miles extra
to get to their destination.
Think of all the damage done to the climate due to 1 vehicle
landing on it’s roof.
Real compassion for someone who could have been injured
Why in 2024 is there NO speed Camera’s or CCTV along
the islands most dangerous road?!
Come on Cllr Jordan sort it out.
No need to impose more work CCTV operatives. You simply add speed limiters to Island cars, as they have in lorries. Then introduce a maximum blanket speed of 30mph as they have in the Channel Islands. This combination would prevent any accelerator working once 30mph is attained. As for mainland use, there is no minimum speed on UK motorways so journeys be affected, just the journey time. But expect regular sidewinds when trucks pass you… Problem sorted I’d say… 🙂
I blame the Motor Industry, it is about time that they put wheels
on roofs.
So many stupid B’stards on Island Roads who cannot drive
and need the extra wheels.
Lol
Another stupid B’stard will be along in a moment
When will IW Council make our roads safe.
We cannot rely on motorists, many of whom
Speed
Use their phones whilst driving.
Overtake at speed etc etc
We need anpr / speed cameras and CCTV
rolled out.
We must keep offenders off our roads.
Ban them for at least 5 years
Its not the roads numb nut it’s the twats who can’t drive..
That is true Bob, but the stupid B’stards will never learn!
If you are out driving today, look in your mirror at the vehicle behind
you, I bet they will be distracted looking at their phone,
women are the worst offenders and workmen.
Why don’t the law see these people?, maybe they all need to go to
Specsavers.
I see these type of drivers on a daily basis.
No it is all the backward Caulkheads who don’t know how to drive.
What the sad lonely old farts they don’t know how to drive
I have never in my life known so many instances of cars ending up on their roofs as here. It is bizarre
It’s becoming a joke lately, 1 car collisions are common on the Island.
Maybe they should re-take their driving tests, mainland roads are
much safer than Island Roads.
But would retaking a test help? It didn’t work the first time… She obviously pleased her examiner on the day but acquired bad habits over time. The driving test standard is the same for us all, but it is the attitude towards motoring that sets us a part. Also there is the technology factor. You knew you were doing 50mph in your Morris Minor and it was noisy and vibrated. But today cars with seatbelts, side impact protection, crumple zones, ABS, traction control, airbags etc, etc, etc, can be like wrapped in cotton wool and to some people lose track of what is happening to them in real time. Electric car owners only have to tolerate tyre rumble. None of these things are bad but can lead people into a false sense of security.
looks like she rolled out of a bend. Maybe not looking where she was going and violent over correction of steering at last minute.
What a waste of a lovely VW?
Not a benefit but, they drive around in brand new
FREE OF CHARGE expensive motors,
they wouldn’t be seen in a vehicle more than 3 years old.
The driver’s son has posted below….would you care to make another inane comment to prove just how stupid and spiteful your character is?
These upside-down trends will escalate as more electric vehicles, with their vicious acceleration, come into use
You clearly haven’t driven one lol
The Sandown Sprint started early this year
Lol
The old goats again and again
Shut up you sad loser
More old driving on the isle of wight
That kerb’s a trip hazard
A VW Golf – and has seen the German motor… what utter shit writing this is..another wanker who can’t drive at least the prick is off the road for a while…more arriving soon.
I think the idiots driving German vehicles think they are driving on the opposite
side of the road.
Only a Remainer would still be seen driving around in a VW
Another Numpty VW driver will be along shortly
That has to be one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever seen
Oh no, stick around, he’s full of them.
As the son of the lady involved in this accident, I am blown away by some of the idiotic comments made by a number of people on this chat. For the record, my mother was not speeding, texting, or doing her makeup! She was in fact on her way to pick up my father from a hospital appointment when as a result of a potential undiagnosed medical condition, she lost control of the car. There are far too many armchair experts who feel compelled to share their opinions on chats like this, or post flippant comments when they have no idea of the facts. Thankfully no one was seriously injured (@Natasha Byrne….sorry about your hedge, but thanks for your concern!). Perhaps people should think before they post, or run the risk of sounding like a plank!
Well said. I hope she’s ok and I was appalled by some of the heartless comments posted by people making assumptions without any facts. Why is a near fatal accident something to make these sorts of comments about. The majority of these posters should be ashamed of themselves. I hope that none of your loved ones have to go through an accident like this and then receive such unjustified and unsubstantiated trolling from their own community.
Well done mate, thank you for posting this. I’m sorry some people feel the need to always do that. Give your mother my best wishes for her recovery, she must have been scared witless. xx
Glad your Mum walked away okay and regardless of the make of car, it did it’s job well in protecting her than it would of 30 years ago. Don’t take the comments too personally, they are made only moments after an incident occurs and reported and well before all the true facts have come to light. All newspapers thrive on sensationalising headlines and a couple of photos, then sit back and wait a flood of comments. This only incites instant reactions to incidents that seems to be occurring more frequently and with an aging population will unfortunately only happen more. The good news is that the anti-age lobbyists seem to stop once they get old.
The car-on-roof season is well underway this year. Looks like a bumper summer to come.
Perhaps she had a medical episode ie a seizure?
