A woman is being tended to by paramedics after crashing into a tree on Middle Road at Calbourne this morning (Thursday).
The incident, which has seen a maroon Ford Focus leave the carriageway and collide with a tree, has occurred near to Calbourne Mill on the road between Newport and Freshwater.
Police, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are all on scene having been alerted to the crash at just gone 05:30.
Thankfully, no one has been trapped or seriously injured, with 1 fire appliance from Newport mobilised to the incident in the interests of safety.
The driver has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
The front of the Focus has been severely damaged with the near side wheel ripped away from the vehicle.
Middle Road is currently closed whilst emergency teams clear the scene.
So glad she is OK the roads must be really icy temp dropped alot in the night. She must of been so frightened
She was shook up understandably, but with reassurance she was ok.
Hi Hayley. I really do not understand the thumbs downs on your comment. There are some right idiots on here. I echo your comment and hope the person concerned is OK x
Agree. These idiots thumbs down everything. How can people thumbs down a message saying hope she’s okay?!
I’m surprised there is no anti skid surface (at least) alone this part of the middle road being as there have been a lot of incidents at this location.
Daily event now.
Keep on the black not green.
You have no idea the impact that has probably had on her and what may have caused the crash, have some empathy how would you feel if this was your family or friend!
Black ice that no one can see but feel if you are unlucky to hit a patch glad the lady is ok we had a mild evening then temps dropped about 4 am be safe everyone
the tree was at the side of the road not in the middle. driver retest needed
The idiots always blame the roads for bad driving, that’s why island drivers can’t drive safely, you can’t educate pork-heads….
Nobody asked you to move here, just letting you know
It’s not the roads as such, its what is on the road. How many trails of spilt or leaked diesel have i seen? How any tipper trucks leaving a wake of mud from a site have i followed, and how many people have followed me so closely that one sudden brake and i would be rear ended.
You are stupid (most polite comment I can post so it’s not removed)
These are perfectly fine comments left so far ….whos the person sat on thumbing down ! Crazy.
Anyway island driving standard IS a problem quite obv which will affect your insurance so keep your thumbs for a lie please! Its you so called perfect drivers thats affected
I’m sure high insurance premiums rising for good driving gives people like you some comfort, however, there will come a point one day when you lot will be priced off the road…
If she was a friend or relative I would have told her NOT to drive. If cannot drive, don’t drive… Many idiots think they can drive on black ice…, over cut corners, skidding about…no thoughts of other road users,
“Stupidity !” Hmm. Apt name for you. At that time she was probably on her way to work or maybe it was an emergency. You obviously judge by your standards – hence your name. Hope she is ok.
This is a nasty stretch of road water comes off the downs then freezes and leaves patches of black ice I try to avoid this road where possible especially by the Watermill , even on a good day , the council shpuld consider a different type of road surface .
To everyone out there ie. all you ‘trolls, keyboard warriors’ and general posters on here – I want to say just how sick and tired I am of you that constantly make ‘jokes’ or assertions as to car crashes. Jokes about “trees jumping into roads” is tiresome now. And the constant drivel about “chavs, McDs, lipstick, don’t know road rules blah blah”. You don’t know what caused this accident or any others. Yes, sadly, there are some idiots on the road here and everywhere BUT you don’t know the situation so please stop assuming (except I suppose that is your fun outlet in life) and just wish well for the person concerned!!
I quite agree with many on here that it’s impossible, and pointless to make wild judgements on traffic accidents no matter how obvious it sometimes seems. What would be useful would be to publicise the cause of the accident when, and if, it is established beyond doubt.
Another driver who thinks they are like Lewis Hamilton, more like Mr Blobby!.
