Solent Coastguard tasked Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team to 2 separate incidents on the Isle of Wight last night (Saturday).
First of all, the team were tasked to The Terrace in Chale Bay at 21:55 following a 999 call made by an individual who was concerned about a small vessel in the water.
After an investigation was carried out and the Coastguard Officers spoke to a local fisherman at Atherfield, the call was deemed a false alarm with good intent.
The second tasking was at 23:12 to reports of a mobility scooter on the cliffs at Shepherds Chine near Atherfield. Following a search of the clifftops nothing was seen or found – no further action was needed or taken.
A spokesperson for Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team said:
Both these calls were made with genuine concern and the right thing was done by calling 999 and asking for COASTGUARD.
Meanwhile in Ryde, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were called to reports of a distress call in the vicinity of Ryde Harbour. A search was carried out but nothing untoward was found.
Officers were then re-tasked to deal with an despondent individual on Ryde Pier. The female was passed into the care of Police.
Ryde Inshore Rescue were also launched at the request of Solent Coastguard.
