A burst water main on Hunnyhill is causing supply issues in Newport this morning (Sunday).
The incident was believed to have occurred overnight with it first logged by Southern Water at 04:o0. Earlier this morning, water was seen cascading down the road.
Some residents in Newport are experiencing low water pressure whilst some are left with no supply at all.
Southern Water Engineers are currently onsite and are working to fix the burst as quickly as possible.
Southern Vectis buses are currently unable to serve numerous stops in the vicinity including Isle of Wight College and Towngate.
The water company haven’t yet given a time when they estimate the works will be finished by.
UPDATE @ 11:30 – Southern Water have confirmed that those affected should now have supply once again.
UPDATE @ 14:00 – Some customers are still having issues with their supply.
Southern Water have said that engineers are still on site carrying out repairs.
As more and more houses are crammed into the Island, then old water mains supplying towns don’t get upgraded, but simply have the pressure increased to cope with the ever increasing demand.
So more bursts occur as more homes are built.
Extra home put huge demands on water, sewage, energy usage, landfill, roads, schools, doctors, dentists, crime, and make everyone’s living standards that much worse.
We need our Government to limit newcomers to the UK, supply working visas only, and thus stop the spread of the indigenous escaping to here as they no longer feel at home in their home towns, villages and cities anymore.
I completely agree with your comments but you cant stop the UK indigenous people from choosing where they live and spend their hard earned money on whatever they want. The island is nothing special so don’t believe otherwise. I moved here as I believed it was a better place to live however after as they say “been there, done it, got the t-shirt” do I want to do it again – no thank you. Hence I will hopefully be selling up and moving back to civilisation.
Amazing how a burst water main story somehow gets a xenophobe comment! Surprised gabion cages or great preston road pavement parking haven’t somehow been shoe horned in on this story.

It’s simple, the ground is very unstable on the island, hence the leaks from the pipes.
