A bonfire on Totland Beach has been extinguished by firefighters tonight (Saturday) following concerns that the fire would potentially spread to nearby wooden structures.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Services mobilised 1 appliance from Freshwater to the scene off Madeira Road, close to Totland Pier.
Given the close proximity of wooden buildings, nearby boats and the wind direction, the decision was made to extinguish the bonfire.
The retained fire crew used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire before returning to their home station.
