Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts have been deployed to Shanklin Seafront this evening (Monday) following the discovery of a suspected piece of ordnance.
The object was discovered at low tide last night (Sunday) which saw Coastguards mobilised from the Fort Walk at St Helens to the Esplanade at Shanklin.
Photographs and measurements were sent across to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, who raised fears that the object was still live.
Taking advantage of tonight’s low tide, Bomb Disposal experts have travelled across the Solent to conduct an examination of the potentially explosive device.
The outcome of on scene investigations is not yet known.
UPDATE @ 22:35 – It has been confirmed that the find was not quite as expected…
Investigations have concluded that the item is in fact a boiler – not a bomb.

Likely another starter motor from a car or similar. More chance of a candy floss exploding as even if an old shell or bomb, been tossed in rough seas for decades and salt water would have likely made all primers inactive anyway.
Makes the finder feel like they have saved a child from losing limbs I guess
