Bob Seely, the former Member of Parliament for the Isle of Wight, is back in local politics as a parish councillor for Freshwater.
Mr Seely was the County Councillor for the Central Wight ward from 2013 until he became Member of Parliament, and resigned, in 2017.
Bob went on to serve 2 terms as MP for the Isle of Wight until he lost his seat to Labour’s Richard Quigley last year.
Now, the 58-year-old is getting involved in politics at a very local level by representing residents in the West Wight on Freshwater Parish Council.
He has been co-opted onto the council with local businesswoman, Sandra Knowles, replacing Gill Kennett and Carol Bray.
did bugger all as anMP
now will do bugger all as a parish “councillor “
totland and freshwater parish councils are full of tory retirees and retired teachers from the mainland that dont like change, seems to be the in thing, move retire over from the mainland, get bored,i know i shall be on the parish councils and object to literally everything that gets put before them if it conficts with their own ideas, hardly any born and bred islanders on them now,oh,and dont forget a smattering of masons in the mix aswell, parish councils should be abolished, especially totland, putting the precept up last year by 60%
so they could buy the village hall and build a house behind it,no consultation whatsoever!
oh, and lets not forget jarman, the closet tory who caused so much grief at the council to stoke his own inflated ego, empowering islanders my ass!
The retirees from the mainland keep the
Island businesses in business.
Check out Busy Bees Olive Tree Restaurant
Lol
Go live on the mainland then if you think that is really the case.
I wouldn’t want to bankrupt the island.
I have family roots
Lol
oh no, sausage bob is back. Lucky Freshwater, NOT!
Let’s see how much bungling bob screws up this time.
Give me Bob any day of the week, much
better than “100 day I will sort the Ferries
Quigley”
Come back Bob the island needs you.
You of course are always wrong.
What has Dick done??!!
Great news! A tad over qualified perhaps, but you have to start somewhere. Welcome back Bob, onwards and upwards.
I wonder how many persons wished they had
voted for Bob in the last election.
I know the answer to that one, a big fat zero.
Better than Dick
Your name suits you
Found his level at last.
Don’t remember being asked to vote on this.
I abhor the practice of co-opting members on to councils of any level. The members are supposed to represent the community yetthe community has had no hand in selecting them. West Wight made it abundantly clear at the General Election that they did not want Seely to represent them so wwhy should a few existing councillors foist him on us as a councillor. The time has come to sweep away these ridiculous parish councils which achieve so little, make decisions which financially affect people quite significantly and are full of individuals who take the job for the social standing and not from any sense of service.
Probably be as effective as a parish councillor as he was as an MP. Did bugger all to help the island then, just sucked up to the higher ups. Tough luck Freshwater!
I think your postings indicate that all you vapid keyboard critics could benefit by asking yourselves what you do or could do to make your community a better place for everyone. Perhaps you do good works anonymously in between spewing out illiterate and uninformed remarks. In which case, my most sincere apologies .
Best comment on this site for quite some time.
All a bit of fun in this crazy world we are living in.
It’s quite easy to do a little research about exactly what Bob Seely achieved for the island.
In fact, it is a very long list of achievements but let’s not make facts interrupt a pounding the keyboard rant..
It doesn’t matter who is running the sh*t show,
they are only concerned about lining their own
pockets.
He did what little he could, within the restrictions placed on him by the undemocratic whipping system in the Commons. The problem lies with that iniquitous and archaic system, which prevents any constituency MP from really doing anything good for their constituents, while ensuring that the Party is always put first.
Today we are advised that there wil be local parish elections on 1 May 2025 so why was it necessary to co-opt Seely only a few weeks before he could stand for llegitimate election by his peers? Perhaps because an incumbent has a better chance of being elected. Something doesn’t smell quite right.
