A drop-in session is to be held in Binstead next month to allow local residents to have their say on plans being drawn up to tackle flooding in the village.
The Isle of Wight Council, in its role as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), is holding the session at Binstead Community Centre on Monday 5th December from 15:00-19:00.
Representatives from Council, Southern Water and the Environment Agency will be present and residents are welcome to pop in to discuss some of the options being considered to help address the flooding issues experienced in the Binstead area over recent years.
Councillor Ian Dore, Ward Councillor for Binstead and Fishbourne, has said:
“There is nothing like the Mark 1 eyeball and residents in Binstead have been superb in sharing their detailed feedback. This contributed to the S19 report and if you read it, you will see that there are various options to combat the flooding problem we have.
“The stakeholders and I, believe it’s vital that residents have a say on how we move forward and engage on this issue. They fed into the report and they should feed into the work proposals and options available to us. To that end we’ve jacked up a drop-in session at the Community Centre where residents can swing by and have a chat with all involved. Maybe a quick round of darts or pool too if that’s your bag.”
Councillor Dore has added:
“This is another milestone moment for Binstead. We’ve got the money secure in the budget and we have different options on the table, plus as I’ve said before; some work has been done already. This is ramping things up a tad. It’s also a golden opportunity for residents to see and meet who is involved.
“Please come along and become part of the process. It’s genuine community engagement and I would hope that many are passionate enough to rock up, share their views and in doing so; help shape the future of flood mitigation in Binstead”.

Maybe look at what caused it further back up in binstead lodge road..those new houses must of filled in the drain ditches put in 15 years ago.. and not had floods since..it came through like a raging river off them and Newman road and was over bumper deep all a long greenways road and went down hill Into the main high street.. we were flooded out old people’s bungalows deep in water.. we had garden gravel..furniture and more rushing along the flow. And as we tried to bail the places out we had all the traffic ploughing through causing more water to come in.. so hoping they also consider sorting out the area back at the junction of Verwood..binstead lodge and greenways which is the pinch point of 3 hills with 1 drain to take it all away
The council and the Government HAVE the answer, the latter fill the UK up with ever more bodies and the council build houses for them or those displaced by them.
Both thinking that more people equals more water drunk so will sop up some of the excess.
