59-year-old Michael Lee Orton has been charged with attempted murder and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal following an incident in Binstead earlier this year, during which he is accused of stabbing his wife and killing the family dog.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Armed Police were deployed to an address on Newnham Road in Binstead on 20th June. It’s here that they found a woman in her 50s – Orton’s wife – with non-life-threatening injuries to her neck and their prime suspect inside a residential property.
After being tended to by neighbours and paramedics, the victim was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment. She has since been discharged.
2 Armed Officers moved in on the Orton’s home and arrested the 59-year-old local plumber, who was then subsequently taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained during this incident. He has spent the past 4 months in hospital – but it remains unclear as to why.
Police have refused to comment on whether Orton has had a bedside guard over the past 16 weeks.
Hampshire Constabulary has now confirmed that Michael Lee Orton – more commonly known as Lee – has been charged with attempted murder and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. He was released from hospital and interviewed by detectives yesterday (Monday).
Orton has been remanded in custody overnight to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court later this morning.
UPDATE @ 13:09 – Michael Lee Orton has appeared in court, where it has been revealed that the family dog, Kora, died as a result of its throat being slit causing the animal to bleed out.
The case against Orton has been sent to the Crown Court on 23rd November.

Evil bastard. Hope he gets a long time away. What had that poor dog ever done to him. Probably his wife’s dog and he knew she would devastated if she no longer had the poor thing.

I’d hang the evil basta*d for killing the dog alone nevermind the attempted murder of his poor wife. You watch, when it comes to trial he’ll play the ‘mental health’ card and claim he’s ‘suffered’ years of psychological trauma from both his wife and the DOG!
Terrible attacking his wife but also doing that to the poor dog as well. What drives someone like this to do such a wicked thing ?
