59-year-old Lee Orton, who has appeared in court charged with attempted murder and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, is accused of stabbing his wife in the neck multiple times and slitting his dog’s throat causing the animal to bleed out, it can be revealed.
As reported by Island Echo earlier today, the plumber and heating engineer from Binstead has been charged in connection with an incident at his home address on Newnham Road earlier this year.
Armed Police were deployed on 20th June and located a woman in her 50s – known to be Orton’s wife – with non-life-threatening injuries to her neck, now known to be multiple stab wounds. The Armed Officers then moved in on the Orton’s home and arrested Michael Lee Orton, who was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during this incident.
He has spent the past 4 months in hospital but was released yesterday (Monday) to be quizzed by detectives. He was subsequently charged and remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court, where he appeared this lunchtime.
During today’s hearing, it was revealed that the family dog, Kora, died as a result of its throat being slit causing the animal to bleed out. It is alleged that Orton committed the act. He is also accused of stabbing his wife in the neck, including the jugular vein – which the Crown Prosecution Service says equates to attempted murder.
Orton appeared in the dock wearing a blue polo shirt and with his arm bandaged. He was supported by a crutch.
The case has been sent up to the Crown Court with a plea and trial preparation hearing set for 23rd November. He has been remanded in custody until that time.
Michael Lee Orton indicated a plea of not guilty, based on his mental condition.
He’ll probably end up with a huge payout for injuries sustained dueing his arrest..and small fine for his crimes..

Yes I agree what he did was a terrible act, to both his wife and the poor dog. But his actions go totally against his character, ordinarily he is one of the nicest people you could know.
