Firefighters are tackling a fire in a communal bin store on Bluebell Meadows in Newport tonight (Tuesday).
2 appliances from Newport are on the scene at Wellesley Way having been alerted to the developing fire by a member of the public at just before 19:00.
Crews have used 2 breathing apparatus and a hose reel to bring the contained fire under control. They are now using Positive Pressure Ventilation to clear smoke from the brick building.
Island Echo is told by a resident of Brooklime House that they discovered the fire when putting the bins out. As they opened the door smoke began billowing out. They immediately called 999.
UPDATE @ 20:30 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down from the incident.
At around 19:45, 1 appliance was re-mobilised to reports of a fire in the open on Westminster Lane, Newport.
