The driver and passenger of a van that caught the attention of Police in Carisbrooke last night (Sunday) were apprehended after attempting to run from officers.
Police stopped the Citroen Berlingo on Wellington Road after checks revealed it had no valid insurance in place.
As the vehicle came to a stop, the occupants try to flee on their own 2 feet – but they didn’t get far before being caught by the pursuing officers.
As well as having his vehicle seized, the driver has been reported for summons for driving without third party insurance.
PC Champney has said:
“Stay legal on the roads folks, if your vehicle isn’t roadworthy or you don’t have the correct documentation to be driving it, then don’t, there’s really no excuse”.

I’ll start the bidding at 300 quid. (I need a van!)
That will be the highest bid. You’ve bought it !
The only winners of driving without tax/mot/insurance are Stag Lane Motors and Bartletts Recovery.
They should set up a Towing Business to Tow away vehicles parked
on pavements.
They would make thousands of pounds each day.
I am surprised the Council have not set up a business to target offenders.
It’s about time someone “STOPPED” idiots
Parking on the pavement down Great Preston Road Ryde
It’s the same usual idiots outside the Council Houses
I think they park there to stop idiots driving too fast down there
I think they are backward lazy b*stards
What the hell has that got to do with this van???
It’s not a van it’s a yellow Vauxhall Corsa
It’s not a van it’s a yellow Vauxhall Corsa.
Just walked along the Road, usual inconsiderate morons who do not understand the
Highway Code
Parked outside No.90 Great Preston Rd! On the Pavement
It’s a yellow Vauxhall Corsa
Some people think they own the pavement!!
Problem is
IW Council themselves do not understand parking rules or Health & Safety
There is no one on the Island enforcing parking rules.
When soneome gets run over due to persons parking on the pavement
They and the Council will be Liable for costs.
Hope they have Insurance
Just went by on Bus, Bus had to pull over due to car being parked on pavement due to oncoming traffic.
People parking on Pavements STOPS traffic flow.
I cannot believe Southern Vectis do not complain about people parking on Pavements and
Blocking roads causing congestion.
Registration no. Of the vehicle is HJ62ZPV
Maybe an Highways Man will attend the scene at Great Preston Road in Ryde to see
the problems caused by people parking on Pavements.
Ban PAVEMENT Parking is the answer.
I personally would have the vehicle towed away.
The car is still there.
Just finished my shift at work and was walking home along
this Road and I noticed this vehicle still parked on the pavement.
It amazes me that vehicles can do this, obviously UK Parking rules
Do not apply on the Isle of Wight.
You cannot teach the Uneducated
Once an Idiot – always an idiot, hence parking on Pavements
Some people have no brains
How about the cars with BLUE lights on the front and that idiot driving around with GREEN under car lights on… ???
Island Roads are sadly lawless Roads
There was one cretin driving along marlborough road with red front foglights
