A decision on whether or not to grant planning permission for a controversial housing development in Bembridge has been delayed once again.
Thornwood Estate IW is seeking the green light for a 56-home scheme on land off Steyne Road, which will see a range of 2 and 5-bed new houses and bungalows created.
The matter was initially due to be heard by the Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee on 13th June, but planning officers removed the application from consideration before the meeting started, as there was an omission on the public notice advertised on the site and online.
The matter was then expected to be listed for the next committee meeting in July, but it wasn’t. It then appeared on the agenda for tonight’s October planning committee meeting, however, it has once again been pulled at the 11th hour.
The Isle of Wight Council says that following a request from the applicant and their planning agent, the planning application has been withdrawn from the agenda. The request has been made in relation to information submitted by the applicant and used by the local planning authority to inform its Appropriate Assessment – a requirement under the Habitats Regulations due to the location of the proposed development.
It is now anticipated that the planning application will be considered at the next Planning Committee meeting, to be held in November.
All comments already submitted — including more than 600 objections — will remain valid.
Pulled for the third time as the planning officers were happy to accept and present totally inaccurate information in order to force this unaffordable, greenfield development through. As with Westacre,, local people will no longer put up with the arrogant manipulation of the planning process purely for profit and greed.
Bembridge is home to one of the most prolific developers who have no qualms about ruining any other area of the Island.
Whilst many of the residents in Bembridge are affluent, and know the right people to quash much of the enmasse building destroying the rest of our Island. hamming up old ‘issues chestnuts ‘such as ‘drainage & only two roads connecting the elite village to the rest of us plebs, they ought to endure social tenants & poor affordable housing living beyond their means buyers too.
Not a case of being a NIMBY in Bembridge, for they don’t have anything so common as a “back yard”, so more a case of being a NIMRA, as “Not in my rolling acres”
Bears, even PINK ones, don’t defecate in their own woods.
We are foster parents living in a flat near this proposed development, surviving on less than the minimum wage and certainly not affluent. Our road is in potholes, as is the High Street. We don’t deny that there are large wealthy homes by the sea but your snide assessment of us is cretinous, insulting and plain wrong.
