The final decision on a controversial housing development in Bembridge has been delayed.
A 56-property housing scheme on Steyne Road in Bembridge was due to be heard by the Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee on Tuesday (13th June).
However, planning officers removed the application from consideration before the meeting started, as there was an omission on the public notice advertised on the site and online.
Ollie Boulter, the Council’s strategic manager for planning, told the committee the notice did not identify that the application was contrary to the Bembridge Development plan and was therefore not advertised in line with the Council’s standard practice.
Mr Boulter went on to say while this omission would not prejudice any committee member the decision was made to hold back the application and re-advertise it at the earliest opportunity.
All comments already submitted — including more than 600 objections — will remain valid.
Concerns have been raised among residents which include flooding and surface water drainage following issues in the village; building on greenfield land; and overdevelopment.
It is expected the application will come to the next committee meeting in July.
The plans were submitted by Thornwood Estate IW nearly 2 years ago and could see a range of 2 and 5-bed houses and bungalows.

Does a 5 bedroom house come under affordable ??????
Thought we had a need for affordable housing??¿???.
So how many are Affordable????.
How many are fat cat profits??????.
How much will the council make on council tax???????.
How will our infrastructure cope ???????.
Any property other than affordable housing should not be allowed to be built on the
Island.
The Island cannot cope now with all the extra people who have moved to the Island over the
last 50 years.
Back then we had more than 1 Hospital as well.
The Island population grows less than 200 per year.
Has anyone seen the paper boy in wroxall? I last sees him last Friday and not a peep since, wondering if he’s pulled a fast one with my weekly payment. The wife is missing her soaps as we don’t have our tv guide…Steve
“Don’t forget the social housing carrot “
Delayed? Is that a shorten phrase for saying not enough money has exchanged hands yet.
How many times do I have to say it? Not in Bembridge!
The Developers are saying that 20 of the 56 houses will be ‘affordable’ – which means the 2 bed semi-detached in the plan. HOWEVER no indication has been given over the last 2 years as to how much these will cost – a new build 2 bed bungalow nearby is £620,000!! How can these 20 houses be labelled ‘affordable’ if no prices are given? The developer will say they are ‘80%’ of market value, which is the definition of ‘affordable’ but no local families will be able to afford them.
No home will ever be affordable to wasters in society.
Those sort who ‘have’ children, then expect others to fund them, and then want others to pay for a ‘social house’ for what they have bought into the world
Get a job, use the free contraception available, both do all the hours you can, save, go without holidays, large expensive cars, eat at home, drink at home, make do, and YOU will be able to buy a home.
But the greedy lazy want a large family home, new, with all goods installed new, and yet expect it for very little.
Well hard luck.
We now have boatloads of arrivals with no land, no home and no money to gain a home, so HMG will have to give a home to all eventually pushing you further down the list.
