Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat launched into the darkness tonight (Thursday) in response to an urgent call for assistance from a tanker at anchor in St Helens Roads.
The Tamar-class All Weather Lifeboat and her volunteer crew were tasked to evacuate an unwell crew member from the tanker ‘Caroline A’ at around 21:40.
It has been reported that a 55-year-old male on board the Italian-registered tanker had been vomiting blood.
It didn’t take long for the lifeboat to reach the vessel and transfer 2 crew members aboard to assess the casualty.
By 22:25, the lifeboat crewman and the casualty were safely onboard Bembridge Lifeboat which began making best speed to Camber, Portsmouth Harbour. Once alongside, members of Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting to assist with transferring the injured male into the ambulance for onward conveyance to Queen Alexandra Hospital
The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ returned to Bembridge boathouse and was recovered by 23:25.
