Warner Leisure Hotels has confirmed that it has had no new cases of norovirus at Bembridge Coast Hotel and has returned to a ‘green safety rating’ following an outbreak of the sickness bug over Christmas.
As first reported by Island Echo, as many as 80 guests were struck down with the vomiting and diarrhoea bug between Christmas and New Year, ruining the festive period for many. Some had to be hospitalised.
It’s now known that the hotel alerted the Isle of Wight Council’s Environmental Health department following the 1st suspected case, but did not close the hotel or warn incoming guests.
In a statement, it has been confirmed that following a deep clean there have been no new cases in the past 4 days and all guests who had previously been unwell have now returned home. Warner’s own health and safety team now consider the hotel to have a ‘green safety rating’.
A Warner spokesperson has said:
“The health and safety of our guests and team is our number one priority.
“In line with our usual procedures, our team deep-cleaned all rooms and all communal areas to ensure the wellbeing and comfort of other guests staying at the hotel.
“We have recorded no further cases in the past four days.”

Picket line at st johns. Why no story on it?
Why pick on hotel, it was a guest that probably brought it in. How many households over Xmas had same? .
80 customers ill. Although a guest may have brought it in, the staff didn’t break the chain of contamination, no cleaning of hard surfaces.
The staff are trained and given refresher training on a regular basis. Why on earth would you believe they were not cleaning hard surfaces regularly? Why would they ignore the threat of covid and norovirus potential affecting their jobs? Norovirus spreads easily and quickly it may well have arrived with one of the coach parties. Who knows, but trust me the staff are trained to nip it in the bud.
I’m surprised that this is not a regular occurrence.
Considering the type of clientele that they attract.
Well done to all staff.
