Minor damage has been caused to a car and a building after an Audi TT rolled into a shopfront in Ryde this morning (Monday).
The vehicle has collided with a wall on Union Street between Greenhams newsagents and Michaelangelo’s restaurant.
It is thought that the handbrake failed on the silver TT which has a disabled badge on the dashboard.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are at the scene alongside recovery agents from Bartletts.
It is unclear when the incident occurred.
Should have been left in reverse gear as well, especially on Union Street.
Or indeed any manual gear.
Never reverse gear only ever first gear, if another car clouts you from behind leaving in reverse gear can do a whole heap of damage to engine/gearbox.
If a car is maintained properly the handbrake should be able to hold it on any of the hills on the island. Having said that, most main dealers fail to do that. I had the handbrake fail on my BMW 15 years ago, three weeks after BMW had done a “full service!”. When I took part the rear brakes the brake shoes for the handbrake were so old they were falling apart. The particular model used shoes for the handbrake and pads for the normal brakes. So if often not checked in a service because it requires removing the calipers to remove the discs to check the shoes. If you can work on your own car, do it, you’ll do a better job.

Driver will probably come back at you with some woke lefty ‘disability’ that is essentially a euphemism for being a moron or div. Or the blue badge was bought on ebay for a fiver.
You’re right about Blue Badges.The main criteria for obtaining one is having difficulty in walking.Go to any supermarket and you often have to walk 100yards before you get in.I don’t see how so many are able to get one.I realise there will be genuine cases-good luck to them, but when I see so many get out and walk better than I am able to I think the people who issue them need to check much more carefully.Also, if they have one,why should parking in streets be free?
Not all disabilities are associated with physical ailments. Many disabilities often cannot be seen. Furthermore, the blue badge holder isn’t always the driver or owner of a vehicle.
Blue badge holder in an Audi TT? Hardly suitable for someone with a disability. I’m all for having a nice car, if your into cars, aren’t they about low though?
