Police have launched an arson investigation after a shed fire broke out in the grounds of a derelict hotel in Sandown earlier today (Monday).
As previously reported by Island Echo fire crews from Shanklin and Sandown were called to the Parkbury Hotel on Broadway in Sandown.
At the scene firefighters used a Hose Reel Jet to extinguish the blaze with had grabbed hold of a shed.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary arrived at the scene and spent some time questioning a group of individuals within the hotel grounds.
It has now been confirmed though that Police are treating the incident as arson.
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
”Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 44230140699”
More dragged up teenagers I expect, off school and parents on drugs not caring where they are…
Yeh, and these are the ones that keep on getting all the free handouts and free houses while working families are struggling for the absolute basics. It’s about time some questions were asked and some priorities and principles were looked into

Likely the owners are miffed it burnt just the shed.
Perhaps the ‘group’ will turn over a new leaf once a stern faced Fire officer has warned them of the dangers that ‘they’ could have been hurt by such actions.
Then again, perhaps the group are less naive than the adults now.
I understand they had a string of gabion cages acting as a fire curtain to prevent spread. Yet another great use for these items.
There is always youths in that old hotel, the adjoining school have called the police on numerous occasions, But the only replies they have received are that there’s no one available to attend!!
Good job we pay our council tax!
Police Probably too busy raiding someone’s property to seize their collection of “ROBINSON JAM MASCOTS”!

Not owned by same lovely family which ‘sorted out’ former Gaiety arcade in Ventnor is it? If so, it’s never arson. Even if the investigating fire officer tells the police it’s textbook arson it still isn’t…
