A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a residential property in Sandown this morning (Saturday).
As first reported by Island Echo, 5 appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service responded to an address on Beachfield Road at around 09:00 this morning.
Crews used breathing apparatus, main jets and hose reel jets to bring the fire under control. Although they got a hold of the situation, the house was badly damaged.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that an arson investigation has now been launched.
Officers are maintaining a presence outside the property this evening.
The 53-year-old man from Sandown remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
