Armed Police were deployed to Sandown yesterday afternoon (Monday) following reports that a man had a gun.
Hampshire Constabulary deployed the specialist officers to Avenue Road, Sandown at 15:46 following a report that a member of the public had spoken to a man who claimed he had a gun.
The 46-year-old homeless man was spoken to by officers and released with no further action.
No weapons were found.
It’s more of a story that the island hasn’t helped it’s homeless and vulnerable people. Those living in poverty probably do say wrong or provocative things often under the influence of alcohol or drugs or if they are being threatened.

If you wish to help homeless and vulnerable people, Chloe, please do, instead of spending time on this board criticising the entire population of the Island, because someone who is homeless decided to make out that they were carrying a gun.
You are assuming that this person was being threatened. Perhaps it was the other way round. The member of the public may have been accosted by this homeless person who made out they had a weapon to scare that person into handing over some cash.
No one is obligated to provide assistance to anyone, it is done out of kindness, so please, do not look down your nose at the “island” due to your perceived lack of support for some sections of society.
No one is rushing to cut the tax burdens on the hard working families and individuals on this Island, as we are all, only one or two steps away from being homeless ourselves. Most of us need to keep every penny we have, just to keep our own heads above water, so please keep your derogatory comments to yourself.
It is often people with not much money who are the most generous. Maybe no one is under obligation to help but many people feel empathy and wish to deal with social inequalities. Chloe, I am sure you do your best to help others. Please keep on doing so
