As part of National Apprenticeships Week, two events are being held on the Island for young people and businesses.
On Tuesday (4th March), a business breakfast is taking place at Quay Arts Centre in Newport to give organisations the opportunity to learn about how apprentices can benefit their business. The event, which is organised by the Isle of Wight Council and the National Apprenticeship Service, takes place between 08:30 and 10:30.
Places are limited – to book your place email [email protected].
On Thursday 6th March, an event is being held at Newport Library for young people to find out about apprenticeships and apply for upcoming opportunities. The day will involve a number of local training providers including HTP, Smart, the Care Learning Centre, FNTC Training and the Isle of Wight College.
The day is split in two, with the 11:00 to 15:30 session for people looking to apply for opportunities available now, and the late session between 15:30 and 18:00 a chance for school leavers to discuss their future plans and opportunities.
Shirley Smart is the council’s Cabinet member responsible for the economy and said:
“The council is very keen to support apprenticeships which can be demonstrated by one of the proposals in this year’s budget being to allocate £100,000 next year to schemes supporting young people into pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships.
“For example, over the last year the council has supported over 100 employers to take on apprentices, including a number itself.
“These events next week are a superb opportunity for both businesses and young people to learn more about apprenticeships and the benefits it can unlock.”
