Bomb Disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on an anti-aircraft shell at an aggregate yard in Cowes this afternoon (Friday).
Police were alerted to the discovery at Isle of Wight Aggregates off Arctic Road earlier on today.
A safety cordon was established and details were passed to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Portsmouth.
By chance, the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team were already on the Island dealing with a suspected piece of ordnance near Brighstone, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Within the past hour, a controlled explosion has been carried out to safely detonate the object – preventing any further risk to the public.
Here is a video of the moment the trigger was pulled…

The amount of explosives being discovered, perhaps a section of bomb disposal is permanently based on the island
I agree but it’s all of the cost that comes into it for having the team based on the island
Just blow up this Rock and
everything on it,
Looks to me you are in need of Mental Heath help?
