Island Line train services between Ryde and Shanklin have been suspended this afternoon (Thursday) due to a points failure.
The failure means that no trains are currently able to operate between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin.
Disruption is expected to continue until at least 15:00 this afternoon.
Island Line staff are arranging replacement transport for passengers.

Call me stupid, but why does a 99% single railway track need signals.
Not exactly Clapham junction is it.
Before the new’r trains came along the island line was always being cancelled because of signal failures.
They (net work rail) have had nearly a year to sort the signalling out,whilst no trains were running ! Typical IW local management bending over backwards to the likes of network rail and great western or network southeast etc.

How many million pounds was spent on this..Am I mistaken or was there a promise of reliable service at 30 min interval connecting with the Fast cat service? Did I misread something somewhere?
Tar mac the lot, and use a battery shuttle bus. GET with the times.
Part of the multimillion pound upgrade to the line included a new signalling system to give more operating flexibility. It does seem strange therefore that a single points failure should see the suspension of the entire train service. It hasn’t been reported where the points failure was but it does give the impression that the train operating company would rather do the easiest thing rather than try and maintain some sort of service for the travelling public.
Spot on sir, if this happens on the mainland, engineer’s would be on site ASAP and would work through the night if needed.
But, alas, tis only little IW, they are used to a third class service. ( Including all infestructer, corruption, nepetism and pure lazy’nst ).
