Firefighters were alerted to a chimney fire in East Cowes late last night (Saturday) – all thanks to the activation of a fire alarm.
At 23:30, 1 retained appliance from East Cowes was mobilised to a property on Adelaide Grove after neighbours heard a fire alarm sounding.
It was soon discovered that a fire had developed within the chimney, with smoke filling the home.
Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear the smoke and a special chimney kit was used on the log burner.
Most chimney fires are preventable. Regular inspection and cleaning of chimney flues will help prevent fires within your chimney. For more information visit https://www.hantsfire.gov.uk/keeping-safe/loveyourhome/firehazards/chimney/.
