The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to a 2-vehicle road traffic collision on Middle Road between Carisbrooke and Calbourne this morning (Thursday).
Emergency services are on scene to the east of the junction with Betty Hunt Lane, having been called to the incident just before 11:00.
The air ambulance has landed in the nearby field with flying medics tending to those involved in the crash.
Police have closed the road in both directions.
Southern Vectis Route 7 buses are diverting locally as a result of the closure.
UPDATE @ 12:01 – The collision has involved a Saab and a moped, which has collided into the rear of the estate car parked at the side of the carriageway.
The air ambulance has now taken off from the scene but has not conveyed the motorcyclist to the mainland. The rider, a local 16-year-old lad, has instead been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be serious.
A hard road closure has now been implemented by Island Roads, from Betty Haunt Lane to Waverley Roundabout, with the additional closure of Betty Haunt Lane in a southbound direction.
Recovery of the vehicles has been arranged.
More idiots will be along soon….
It’s unbelievable, it really is. The standard of driving and riding on the island is absolutely diabolical.
Is that all you can say people . The poor lad could be in a serious condition and sorry we all have accidents even you have some respect
From the photographs it is obviously the car drivers fault, how inconsiderate to park by the side of a road, the driver should have known scooters need a road and a half.
collided with a parked car on a moped just wait till they pass test to drive a car god help us
So quick to judge so you know all the facts you all witnessed what happened!!
A strong gust of wind, coupled with a wet muddy and slippery road……. but then you were all there so as usual know it all, congrats on that. Hope the lad is okay, and makes a full.recovery.
I have seen lads on scooters diving one handed and texting at the same time and he worked for a local delivery firm
More bad driving on the iow
Hope the rider makes a speedy recovery, but basically reinforced what I said about nearly being hit in the rear on many occasions. And this car wasn’t even moving?! Get well soon young man.
I think your being to harsh poor lad the road gets littered with small stones and mud around there he is young will learn the island roads and maybe take a different route next time after rain
One I hope he’s alright regardless what happened but anyone know the number plate as I have been looking for my mope for several months as it been stolen. The police won’t do anything as Ive already called them.
