An ongoing medical emergency in Fishbourne this morning (Wednesday) has seen the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) land in the busy Wightlink Ferry terminal.
The helicopter lifted off from its Thruxton base after an emergency call was received at around 09:30.
Having circled the skies above the small village, the helicopter was brought down in Wightlink’s busy Fishbourne terminal.
Those preparing to board the 10:20 to Portsmouth watched on as the helicopter descended.
On the ground, resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service including an Operational Commander and Critical Care Paramedic are on scene at an address on Fishbourne Lane.
This mission is the first of the day for the HIOWAA.
Island Echo understands that Wightlink staff were very helpful in facilitating the landing of the air ambulance.
UPDATE @ 12:00 – After nearly 2 hours on the ground, the air ambulance has now lifted from Fishbourne.
The helicopter has now returned to base at Thruxton, having stood down from the incident.
