Flying medics from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance have touched down in Oakfield this morning (Friday) in response to a life-threatening medical emergency at a residential address.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance service responded to a 999 call at around 09:00, mobilising an ambulance, rapid response paramedic and an officer to Sutton Close.
Due to the nature of the emergency, a fire appliance from Ryde Fire Station – just 100m around the corner – was also mobilised on a medical response.
Now, 2 specialist medics from the air ambulance are with blue light colleagues at the scene of the medical emergency and are working to stabilise the patient.
It was at 09:25 that the distinctive yellow and green helicopter landed in fields between Smallbrook Lane and Nicholson Road, having lifted off from its new base at Southampton Airport just 10 minutes prior.
UPDATE @ 10:14 – The poorly patient has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land, accompanied by the air ambulance doctor and paramrdic.
The air ambulance itself has relocated to the helipad at St Mary’s.
