Police, paramedics and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are attending a road traffic collision in Freshwater this morning (Saturday).
A motorcyclist has been injured as a result of the incident at the bottom end of School Green Road. It’s understood that a car has also been involved.
Specialists doctors on board the air ambulance have in the past few minutes landed in the heart of Freshwater to provide enhanced care to the casualty.
Numerous emergency vehicles are reported to be responding to the West Wight. They were called to the scene sometime around 11:00.
Southern Vectis say that their Route 7 and Route 12 buses will be diverting around local back streets to circumnavigate the road closure.
UPDATE @ 12:35 – 1 male has sustained leg injuries as a result of the collision, however, his injuries are not as serious as first feared and he has therefore been transferred to St Mary’s Hospital via land ambulance.
The air ambulance has now taken off from Freshwater and the scene has been cleared.
It has been confirmed the collision involved a motorcycle and a car.
All roads are now open in the area.
UPDATE @ 14:05 – Local resident Marie Bell has praised the actions of Southern Vectis’ drivers in assisting with the incident.
Marie says:
“The bus driver who stopped and was first on the scene to help was absolutely brilliant. A bus driver also stopped the other side of the road and coordinated traffic until the police arrived. They both did an amazing job”.
Well done to the bus drivers – and the emergency services – for their efforts

I assume you mean Southern Vectis route 7 and 12. Route 8 is an East Wight route

Well done to the male cyclist who was redirecting traffic at the small roundabout, away from the scene. A braver man than me. I saw a man in a car trying to ignore him. Silly ass.
