The owner of Ada Mediterranean Kitchen in Ryde is looking to transform a former jeweller’s into a bistro-style restaurant, if plans are approved.
Sinan Keskin has made a planning application to the Isle of Wight Council for a change of use of 165 High Street in Ryde. He is looking to open a ‘relaxed bistro-type venue’ at the premises.
Up until 2017, the shop was Hobbs the jewellers. It then became a charity shop for Caring Cancer Trust, but they vacated the town centre property at the end of 2024.
Mr Keskin said:
“Having run a very successful and popular restaurant on Union Street for more than ten years, I am now open to new challenges.
“Our existing location is well considered and has a wide and varied customer base of both regular locals and visiting tourists and professional people.
“My plan for this location would be to extend this and create a relaxed bistro type venue that I believe would encourage footfall to this part of the high street.
“It is discouraging to see the amount of high street locations that are currently either closed or given over to charitable endeavours as there seems to be little draw to this part of town.
“My proposal will require much time, energy and funding but I have lived on the Island for many years, having grown to love it and consider it home.”
Mr Keskin’s existing business, Ada, is highly regarded and is listed in the top 3 restaurants in Ryde, according to TripAdvisor.
The council’s public consultation on application 25/00728/FUL closes on 20th June and a decision is expected on 16th July.
