A 77-year-old man who was struck by a car on the main road at Binstead last month has died in hospital, 3 weeks after the collision.
David Cairns was hit by a Skoda Octavia on Binstead Road at just before 10:20 on the morning of 15th November. The vehicle was travelling up the hill towards Wootton when the incident occurred outside the village Post Office.
Mr Cairns, from Binstead, was transferred to hospital and underwent a number of operations before being placed into an induced coma. Sadly, he never recovered and suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning. The decision was taken to turn off his life support on Wednesday afternoon.
His family, who say they are devastated, are being supported by Police.
Hampshire Constabulary says that enquiries into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing at this time.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident. Anyone with information, or who may still have dashcam footage from that date, is asked to call 101 quoting the reference 44210458416.
